We spend our days comparing eSIM plans, and the most common thing people tell us is that they do not want to do this. They do not want to check a table before every trip, work out which bundle fits, or discover that the volume discount needed 20 GB they were never going to use.
So we are considering our own eSIM with exactly one number attached to it. $5.00 per GB, in every country we cover. Credit that never expires. Nothing else to decide.
It does not exist yet. Whether we build it depends on how many people tell us they would use it, which is what this page is for.
What if it was just $5.00 a GB, everywhere?
We are considering a BetterSIM eSIM at one flat rate worldwide. No tiers, no bundles, no per-country price shopping, no volume discounts you never reach. The same price in Japan as in Fiji or Kenya.
Straight answer: this would not be the cheapest option. The plans listed on this page are often less per GB, especially in Europe and Asia. It would be the simplest, and it would beat flat-rate carriers like Google Fi at $10/GB by half.
Where this is a bad deal
We compare eSIMs for a living, so we are not going to pretend a flat rate wins everywhere. It does not. Here is the cheapest 3 GB plan we currently track in six countries, against our $15.00.

The pattern is consistent: in Europe and mainstream Asia, per-country plans beat a flat rate, often by a lot. Off the beaten track, a flat rate wins and sometimes wins enormously. What it always does is stay the same, which is the whole point. You can see every price we track on our destination pages and decide for yourself.
What this would and would not be
- Not the cheapest eSIM you can buy
- If you are happy to compare plans for each trip, you will beat this price in most popular destinations. Our site will keep helping you do that, whether or not we ever launch this.
- Half the price of flat-rate carriers
- Google Fi charges $10/GB internationally. Carrier day passes run $5 to $12 per day whether you use them or not. If that is what you use today, this would cut your bill by about half without changing how you think about it.
- Credit that never expires
- Data you paid for and did not use would stay yours for the next trip. No 30-day windows, no re-buying because a plan lapsed while you were home. Charging you for data you never used is exactly the thing this is meant to get rid of.
- No card, no account, today
- The launch list is an email address and one question. We will write once, when we decide either way, and that includes writing to say we decided not to build it.
